Violet Smith Stokes, 90, of Georgetown, formerly of Greer, passed away Thursday, October 04, 2012 at Tidelands Community Hospice House. Born on May 25, 1922, in Spartanburg, she was a daughter of the late Bomar C. and the late Blanche Nichols Smith. Mrs. Stokes was a member of Greer First Baptist Church and retired from The Tire Exchange of Greer after 25 years of service. Survivors include her husband of 71 years, Donald Richard Stokes of Georgetown; one son, Donald R. "Rick" Stokes, II of Greenville; one daughter and son in law, Ann S. and Dr. Ted Sherrill of Georgetown; two grandchildren, John A. Sherrill and Jennifer S. Holly (Robert) all of Athens, GA; and one step-brother, Bobby Hannon (Betty) of Lexington. She was preceded in death by one brother, Rufus Smith; and one sister, Hazel Keele. A graveside service will be held at 1 PM Saturday, October 6, 2012 in Wood Memorial Park in Duncan with Dr. Ted Sherrill officiating. Memorials may be made to Greer First Baptist Church, 202 W.
