Obituary of Marilyn Powell West

Marilyn Powell West, loving wife of James Gilbert West, Sr., passed away Tuesday, October 24, 2023, surrounded by her family in Conway Medical Center. A memorial service will be held 11:00am Friday October 27, 2023 in First Baptist Church of Georgetown. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00am. Burial will follow in Mount Tabor Baptist Church Cemetery. Born April 3, 1947 in Greenville, South Carolina, she was a daughter of the late James Powell and the late Mary Bright McGee. Mrs. West was a member of First Baptist Church of Georgetown and the Samaritans Sunday School Class. She was a 1966 graduate of Winyah High School and later Horry-Georgetown Technical College. She retired as a Customer Service Representative with Wachovia bank after many years of service. In her retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her precious grandchildren and cooking for her friends and family. Marilyn West lived a life steeped in faith, exuding the values of compassion, kindness, and selflessness that enriched the lives of her family, friends, and community. Surviving, in addition to her husband of 55 years are, one son, James Gilbert West, Jr. and his wife Melinda of Summerville; two grandchildren, Gavin West and Danielle West, both of Summerville; one brother, James Richard Powell and his wife Karen of Hiawassee, Georgia and a number of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
