Obituary of John Wesley Thomas

John Wesley Thomas, Sr., 92, passed away Tuesday, August 22, 2023 in his home. The Thomas family will receive friends 6:00-8:00pm Thursday, August 24, 2023 at Graham Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held 3:00pm Friday August 25, 2023 in Rose Hill Baptist Church. Burial with military honors, will follow in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens. Born June 20, 1931 in Georgetown County, he was a son of the late Phillip Fred Thomas and the late Annie Gorman Thomas. Mr. Thomas was a member of Rose Hill Baptist Church and a devout believer of service over self. He was involved in many different organizations including The Lions Club, Habitat for Humanity, and Helping Hands. He retired from Georgetown County after many years of faithful service as Supervisor of Roads and Bridges. Surviving are, one daughter, Angela Hewitt (Mack) of Georgetown; one son, John Wesley Thomas, Jr. (Keri) of Murrells Inlet; five grandchildren, Crystal Self (BJ), Johnny Thomas (Sandy), Kristy Bourne, Davey Bourne (Rachel), Tiffany Brantley (James), all of Georgetown; eleven great-grandchildren, Sierra Self, John Michael Thomas, Charlie Thomas, Summer Thomas, Austin Thomas, Jacob Thomas, Paislee Gaskins, Jackson Brantley, Connor Brantley, Grady Bourne, Hadleigh Bourne; 2 sisters, Peggy White (Phil) of Georgetown, Frankie Hilton of Virginia; one brother, Charles Thomas of Pawleys Island; and a number of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Rosmond Thomas, his second wife, Jennye Thomas; three sisters, Ethelyn Blake, Dot Brown, Ada Katon; four brothers, Harvey Thomas, Jr. Thomas, Joe Thomas, Buddy Thomas; and one daughter in law, Peggy Gibson Thomas.
