Gwen & Family-
Dick and I met during the time our family business (Marchant Industries) of Greenviile was contracted by Christ Episcopal Church to manufacture new pew cushions for the main sanctuary.
Wow…what a experience! The velour used was custom manufactured by his firm, Piedmont Plush Mills, on Easley Bridge Road in Greenviile. After several dye samples were made and approved by the Rector and Vestry, we went to work.
The project took several months to complete and kept our workroom busy for that amount of time. WOW! They may still be in use after 40+ years
My wife Deborah, and I, “ran into “ him at a store in Pawley’s last year and had a great ‘reunion’.
Our sympathy to your family in our loss of a GREAT man and friend.
Respectfully,
Tom Marchant +

Dear Gwen, you probably don’t remember me, but you and Dick came to Atlanta and attended opening night of Phantom Of The Opera at the Fox Theater with my husband, Bill Kress of Georgia Stage, and me. It was a wonderful and memorable experience. Dick was a great friend and business associate to us over the years and Bill often wondered how Dick was doing in his retirement. As strange as it may seem, Bill also passed away on May 19, 2023. I would imagine that those two wonderful men are designing and building theaters up in the sky. My heart goes out to you for I truly know how much your heart hurts.
Sincerely,
Melanie Camp Kress

We all loved Gampa so much!!! Truly, to know him was to love him. He changed this world by so many small and large contributions…not only financially but with his guidance, advice, and actions. Gampa taught me the importance of serving others no matter where life takes you.
We all have so many wonderful memories of my life with ‘Mr H’ and my prayer is that we can keep the memories close when the sadness descends.

So many beautiful days on the beach, playing holeball, coffee on the porch, in the swing or the hammock at Forget Me Not (old and new). Fishing in the wooden boat was a personal favorite of mine, where Brandon caught his first ever fish. We enjoyed so many moments over the years at all of Mom and Mr. H's (Granpa H) wonderful homes, and although I was too young to appreciate the James Street plantation when I lived there, through much sweat and hard work, they turned it into such a wonderful home.
Granpa H made all our lives so much better, in ways others may never know, simply because he genuinely enjoyed helping people. Always in control, rarely surprised by anyone or anything, he was the all-knowing 'rock' of the family.
We thank you Granpa, for all the wonderful love and care you gave us, delightful memories, and invaluable advice. And most of all, for presumably the most brilliant thing you ever did, marrying our Mom.
We love you always,
John Alma Brandon Britni Jacob Payton and Carson

Sherrill the boys and I want to pay our respects and condolences to Gwen and the entire Heusel family.
Richard was a one of a kind gentleman. He did so much to help others and to improve the community in Greenville as well as the Georgetown and Pawleys Island communities. His humor was second to none. He was quick with a joke or to make you smile.
He always gave sound advice when asked. Richard and Gwen were my first customers in 1995 when I started my landscape business. And right away a life long friendship was started. The world would be much better if we had more men like Richard leading the way. He will be missed greatly. But I know my son's and I are better off having known Richard.

To Gwen and the entire Heusel Family - My sincerest of condolences go out to you at this time.
Dick was a sterling representative of all things good in life. I count myself as being highly fortunate to have known Dick for a long time. Dick's love for the sport of tennis was one of the passions we shared. I will never forget playing tennis with Dick on the side yard clay court close to downtown Greenville!
He shared himself, his philanthropy and his great sense of judgment with so many people. The world, indeed, is a better place because of the many positive attributes of Dick Heusel. May he rest in peace. Sincerely - - -
