John Richardson Howard, Sr., 80, husband of Frances Hopper Howard, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday, February 8, 2023. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at St. Mary, Our Lady of Ransom Catholic Church on Saturday, February 18th, 2023 at 11AM. Interment in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens will immediately follow the Mass. The family will receive friends on Friday, February 17, 2023 at St. Mary, Our Lady of Ransom Catholic Church from 6PM-8PM. Mr. Howard was born in DeLand, Florida on November 6, 1942 to the late Lawrence E. Howard, Sr. and the late Claudia W. Howard. He was a graduate of Winyah High School Class of 1961 and United States Navy Veteran who served in Vietnam. Since 1976, Mr. Howard was the owner of Howard Homes in Georgetown. His family said that he never met a stranger and loved that his profession allowed him to meet and help so many people. Mr. Howard was a member of St. Mary, Our Lady of Ransom Catholic Church and the Knight’s of Columbus. He was active with Cursillo Movement and former member of the Georgetown County Draft Board. In his free time, Mr. Howard enjoyed swimming, fishing, playing cards with his grandchildren and spending time with his beloved family. In addition to the love of his life, his wife of 58 years, he is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth H. Regan (Michael) of Goose Creek and Lynn H. Pierce (Bill) of Pawleys Island; two sons, John R. Howard, Jr. (Magen) and Brian F. Howard (Ashli) of Georgetown; 18 cherished grandchildren, Ashley Woodruff of Georgetown, Matthew Hamlin (Mandy) of Cumming, GA, Morgan Hamlin of Goose Creek, Travis Pierce of Garden City, Taylor Pierce or Pawleys Island, Patrick Regan of Greenville, John Regan of Goose Creek, Thomas Regan of Goose Creek, Emily Pierce of Pawleys Island, Peter Howard of Murrells Inlet, Michael Howard of Murrells Inlet, Blake Howard of Georgetown, John R. Howard III of Murrells Inlet, Easton Howard of Georgetown, Evan Pierce of Pawleys Island, Hudson Howard of Georgetown, Everly Howard of Georgetown, and Camryn Howard of Georgetown; 8 great grandchildren, Trinity Flowers, Riley Elliott, both of Georgetown, Alexander Pierce of Pawleys Island, Isaiah Elliott and Isaac Elliot of Georgetown, Joseph Hamlin of Cumming, GA, Violet Pierce of Garden City; three brothers, Larry Howard, Jr. (Jean) of Pittsburg, PA, Jimmy Howard (Carol) of Georgetown, Tommy Howard of Georgetown; one sister, Claudia Howard of Georgetown; and a number of nieces, nephews, and extended family.
