Obituary of Walker Levurn Avant

Walker Levurn Avant, 99, husband of Ann Smyrl Avant, passed away on Monday, October 17, 2022 at Prince George Healthcare Center in Georgetown, SC. A funeral service, with military honors, will be held at Graham Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, October 20, 2022 at 2PM. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1PM-2PM. Burial, directed by Graham Funeral Home, will be held in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens immediately following the funeral service. Mr. Avant was born in Georgetown on March 18, 1923, to the late Stephen Walker Avant and the late Cynthia Cribb Avant. He was a United States Army World War II Veteran and a member of Duncan Methodist Church. Mr. Avant retired from International Paper Company’s Box Plant division. He enjoyed fishing, metal detecting, and watching the Atlanta Braves play in his free time. Surviving in addition to his wife of 38 years are seven children, Mary Marlene Avant of Columbia, Michael Avant (Jennifer) of Georgetown, Mark Alan Avant (Mary Lou) of Murrells Inlet, Andrew Abell (Michelle) of Wytheville, VA, Clark Abell (Susan) of Blythewood, SC, Richard Abell (Lorraine) of Blythewood, SC, and Jim Abell of Columbia; 12 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
