Obituary of Richard Griffin Leland

Richard Griffin Leland, 89, husband of Florrie Adalee Miller Leland, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 23, 2022. A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 26, 2022 at 11AM at Wayne United Methodist Church at 621 Wayne Street Georgetown, SC 29440. Interment, directed by Graham Funeral Home, will immediately follow at Williams Hill Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery at 86 Williams Hill Road Hemingway, SC 29554. The family will receive friends on the evening of Sunday, September 25, 2022 at Graham Funeral Home from 6-8PM. Griff was born in Georgetown, SC on December 12, 1932 to the late Legare Morrison Leland and the late Bonnie Dale Collins Leland. A graduate of Andrews High School, he was a longtime member of Wayne Methodist Church and a member of the Barnes Sunday School Class. He served 15 years with the United States Navy Reserve becoming a Chief Petty Officer and retired from International Paper Company as a member of the Quarter Century Club. He was also active in the Navy Club of Georgetown County. Griff enjoyed saltwater fishing and shrimping and spending time with his family. He loved the Lord and would speak to any and everyone he met about the gospel. He had a heart for spreading the love of Jesus and wanted to ensure that everyone he met had a relationship with Christ. Surviving in addition to his wife of 61 years, are three sons, Richard G. Leland, Jr. (Andria), Kenneth B. Leland (Mary Jane), David W. Leland (Lucy); six grandchildren, Parker (Lindsay), Rebecca, Alexandria, Griffin, Wells, Madison; one great grandchild, Henry; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. Griff was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Bonnie Elizabeth Leland; and two brothers, Legare Morrison Leland, Jr. and Joseph Edward Leland.
