Please share a memory of Rodger to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Rodger Steven Vinson, 69, passed away at Piedmont Medical Center on Friday, May 13, 2022.
Growing up in Lando with his brothers, he graduated from Lewisville High School in 1968 where he was voted “Most Versatile” and “Most School Spirited” by his classmates. His senior quote “a guy should spend all of his life having fun-but I’m going to give it a try.”
He married and moved to Georgetown, SC where he and his wife welcomed a daughter. Rodger worked at Georgetown Steel Mill for 32 years until its closing. He was able to retire but decided to work for Georgetown County’s Environmental Services until 2017. His coworkers from both the county and the Steel Mill say “Rodger had a joke for every occasion and loved to laugh.”
He returned to his hometown in 2017 to care for his aging mother until her death in 2020. Rodger remained in the upstate while courageously battling Multiple Myeloma. He passed away peacefully with his daughter and nephew at his bedside.
Rodger was preceded in death by a sister, Rane; two brothers, Danny and Phillip; parents, Lonnie and Rubanell; and a son-in-law, Allen Carl.
He is survived by a daughter, Leslie Vinson Carl; a grandson, John Allen Carl; a granddaughter, Kathleen Carl; a favorite nephew, Daniel Clayton Vinson; as well as many close friends and numerous cousins and extended family.
