Elizabeth “Betty” Tompkins Ray, 82, passed away on Thursday, July 8, 2021 at her home.
A graveside service, officiated by Pastor Chris Giles, will be held on Tuesday, July 13, 2021 at 2PM in Piney Forest Cemetery where she will be laid to rest with her sons. The family will receive friends on Monday, July 12, 2021 from 6-8PM at Graham Funeral Home.
Ms. Ray was born in Georgetown, SC on February 14, 1939 to the late Thomas Broshel Tompkins and the late Anges Elizabeth “Lizzie” Russ Tompkins. She was a lifetime member of Graves Baptist Church who enjoyed painting, crocheting, sewing, crafting, and gardening in her free time. Ms. Ray was a hairdresser for many years, but she ended her career retiring from Georgetown Memorial Hospital’s Histology Lab as a phlebotomist. Her greatest joy was spending time with her friends and family, all of whom will miss her dearly.
Surviving are five children, Shakey Madden (Cherrie) of Maggie Valley, NC, Annette Owens (Ronnie) of Georgetown, SC, Alan Ray (Hilda) of Andrews, SC, Julia Flegel (Chuck) of Georgetown, SC, Sheila Locklair (Johnny) of Georgetown, SC; two brothers, Danny Tompkins (Judy) of Miami, FL, Hassie Tompkins (Lois) of Georgetown, SC; thir grandchildren, Trey Flegel (Brittany), Crystal Throckmorten (Brian), Hillary Ray, Ashley McKenzie, Jessica Flegel, Candice Locklair, Matthew Ray, Patrick Ray (Taylor), Joshua Ray, Brandi Ray (Nick), Katie Ray, Michelle Collins (Benjie), Chris Madden; 13 great grandchildren, Madison, Owen, Jameson, Nicholas, Jayden, Sophia, Jonathan, Logan, Memphis, Leo, Deliliah, Landon, Thomas; two great great grandchildren, Jon Brian and Koah; and several beloved nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three children, Billy Ray, Joey Ray, Gary Ray and four brothers, Louis Tompkins, Thomas Tompkins, Jr., Cecil Tompkins, Ralph Tompkins.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Tidelands Community Hospice at 2591 N Fraser Street, Georgetown, SC 29440.
