Mary Virginia McKay Scharlau, 71, the wife of Elwin "Dutch" Scharlau of 57 years, passed away on August 31, 2012 at Tidelands Community Hospice House. Born on December 11, 1940, in Hollywood, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Arthur McKay and Olive McKay. Mrs. Scharlau attended the United Methodist Church in Medina, NY. She was a retired CNA for the Orchard Manor Nursing Home in New York. Survivors include her husband of Georgetown; two sons, Mark Scharlau (Annette) and David Scharlau both of Georgetown; two daughters, Melody Sturkie (Charles) of Georgetown and Dawn Breed (Roger) of Tampa, FL; and 8 grandchildren, Haley Scharlau, Phillip Breed, Adam Breed, Stephanie Scharlau, Amber Miller, Cody Ruthowski, Mindy Edge and Joel Edge. She was preceded in death by a son, Scott Scharlau. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM, Monday, September 3, 2012 in the Graham Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Kenny Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Memorials may be made to Tidelands Community Hospice House, 2591 North Fraser Street, Georgetown, SC 29440.
