Obituary of Carol Drayton Barker

Carol Elizabeth Drayton Wells Barker, 81, wife of Ronald Boyd Barker, passed away on Sunday, December 13, 2020 at Agape Hospice House of the Upstate in Landrum, South Carolina. A graveside funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 19, 2020 at 2PM in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens in Georgetown. Masks will be required and social distancing will be enforced. Born in Georgetown, SC on September 8, 1939, she was a daughter of the late Mathew Drayton and the late Ronelle Williams Drayton. Mrs. Barker worked in the accounting department at International Paper Company and enjoyed researching genealogy, cross stitching, and visiting libraries and graveyards in each town in which she lived in her free time. She was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution and United Daughters of the Confederacy. She was also a member of the National Society for Historic Preservation and the Drayton Hall Preservation Trust. Mrs. Barker was a devoted member of the Bible Believers class at Champion Forest Baptist Church in Houston, Texas where she was also in a prayer circle that was a big part of her life in those years. They were a wonderful support system and spent wonderful vacations together. In Illinois she was a member of Minooka United Methodist Church and ran an in-home daycare where she made numerous friends. She made many wonderful lifelong friends during her nine years in Joliet, Illinois and her twenty-four years in Houston, Texas and remembered her time in both places fondly. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister who will be dearly missed. Surviving, in addition to her husband of 49 years, are two daughters in law, Valinda Wells Anderson of San Antonio, TX and Tricia Tetor of Goose Creek, SC; grandchildren, Alex, Reed, and Jenna Barker of Goose Creek, SC and Sean and Heather Wells of San Antonio, TX; great grandchildren, Kian and Aiden Wells of San Antonio, TX; two sisters, Jenelle Fulton of Georgetown, SC and Marilyn Blake of Duncan, SC; two brothers, Everette Drayton (Pat) of Florence, SC and Jimmy Drayton (Johnette) of Florence, SC; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Billy Wells and Boyd Barker; her first husband, William Wells; and a sister, Betty McElveen.
