Obituary of William Ackerman

William James Ackerman, Jr., 77, widower of Kay Lane Ackerman, passed away July 1, 2012 at Georgetown Memorial Hospital. Born on October 31, 1934, in Georgetown County, he was the son of the late William James Ackerman, Sr. and the late Hazel McCants Ackerman. Mr. Ackerman served in the South Carolina Army National Guard and was retired from International Paper Company with 41 years of service. He was a 1955 graduate of Winyah High School, where he excelled in football and was a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans Battery White Camp # 1568. He was an avid outdoors man and enjoyed meeting friends for breakfast at the Ball and Que. Survivors include four children, Stacie M. Ackerman of Lexington ad Sandra S. Harris (Ken) all of Lexington, Billy J. Gunter of Allendale and A. Glenn Gunter (Patricia) of Georgetown; five grandchildren; one great grandchild; and one nephew, Marc Parker (Lillian) of Georgetown. He was preceded in death by a sister, Gertrude A. Parker, Funeral Services will be held at 10 AM Wednesday, July 4, 2012 at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Billy Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens. The family received friends from 5-7 PM Tuesday at Graham Funeral Home. Memorial maybe made to the American Cancer Society, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia, SC 29210.
