Obituary of Al Everett Avant

Al Everett Avant, 68, husband of Patsy Owens Avant, passed away Wednesday, September 25, 2019 at Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center.

A graveside funeral service, officiated by Keith Wall, will be held on Wednesday, October 2, 2019 at 1PM in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12PM to 1PM at Graham Funeral Home.

Born in Georgetown on March 2, 1951, he was a son of the late Freddie Gordon Avant and the late Nita Lee Fulton Avant.  Mr. Avant worked at International Paper for 35 years and was a Vietnam veteran with the United States Airforce. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, golf, and watching NASCAR.  He also got great joy out of watching his daughters play softball.  His family said he loved tinkering and could fix almost anything around the house.  His greatest times were spent in the company of his family and friends.

Surviving in addition to his wife of 45 years are his children, Derrell Avant of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Allison Thurlo of Murrells Inlet, SC, Julia Pilot (John) of Pawleys Island, SC, Lori Wright of Murrells Inlet, SC, Addie Avant (Martin Ureta) of Juniper, FL; grandchildren, Emily Pilot, John Henry Pilot, Tucker Thurlo, baby Amelia Ureta on the way in December; two sisters, June Venters (Bobby) of Summerville, Linda Eister (Gerald) of Hampstead, NC; three brothers, Tony Avant (Toni) of Kingstree, SC, Jerry Avant (Cindy), Joey Avant (Robin) of Georgetown, SC; fourteen nieces and nephews; and his loyal and faithful four-legged companion Benny.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one grandson, Tanner Avant and his grandmother, Kate Fulton and her husband Lucian.
