Obituary of Virginia W. Cooper
Mrs. Virginia W. Cooper, widow of Harold Franklin Cooper, passed away Thursday February 7, 2019 in her home surrounded by friends and family.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 10, 2019 at 2 P.M. in the chapel of Graham Funeral Home. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service. Interment will immediately follow the service and be held in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Cooper was born June 14, 1924 in Williamsburg County, a daughter of the late Elizabeth Barrineau Ward and the late Samson Ward. She was a nursing assistant for 10 years at Georgetown Memorial Hospital before moving to Aiken where she worked for an additional 10 years at Aiken County Hospital. Mrs. Cooper worked in pharmaceutical manufacturing for a time before becoming a personal care giver, a job she kept until she was 86 years old. She was a member of Memorial Baptist Church of Aiken and enjoyed gardening, crossword puzzles, and spending time with her friends and family.
Surviving are three daughters, Margaret C. Padgett of Aiken, Wanda C. Johnson of Georgetown, and Faye C. Rera of Aiken; one son, James H. “Jimmy” Cooper of Georgetown; three brothers, Edwin N. Ward and his wife Rosie of Charleston, Phillip J. Ward of North Charleston, and Franklin R. Ward and his wife Jackie of Georgetown; ten grandchildren, twenty-five great grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by one sister, Tinker W. Pierce and four brothers, Lofton Woodrow Ward, W. Lewis Ward, Walter R. Ward, and Levy B. Ward.
Her family would like to extend their gratitude to her caregiver, Chrissy Meadors, for the love and compassion she showed Mrs. Cooper.
