Obituary of Joseph Ray Kramer

Joseph “Ray” Kramer Jr., 83, of Kingstree SC., Buckeye, WVA and Lafayette, IN., passed away peacefully on 08-18-18 at Prince George Healthcare, in Georgetown, SC.

Born on a small farm in Buckeye, WVA on 01-13-1935, Mr. Kramer attended Hillsboro High School and worked on the farm raising and showing championship sheep and cattle.  He made multiple appearances at the Grand National Championships in Chicago showing his prized sheep.  Mr. Kramer entered the army in 1957, but then took an early discharge due to his father’s death (Joseph Ray Kramer Sr.) and returned home to run the farm and be with his mother (Bertie Marie Kramer) and younger sister (Mary Margie Fisher).

In 1964 Mr. Kramer married Shirley M. Harvey (deceased) and embraced her three children, Katie, Rob and Nora.

In 1965, Mr. Kramer gave up farming and moved his family to Lafayette, IN, to work in the construction industry.

Mr. Kramer loved sports of all kinds, but in particular, baseball, football and basketball.  His favorite teams were the Atlanta Braves, West Virginia Mountaineers and Purdue Boilermakers.  He also enjoyed politics and history.

Mr. Kramer eventually moved back to Buckeye, WVA then on to Kingstree, SC where he made his final home.

Surviving Mr. Kramer are his sister Mary Margie Fisher (Charles) of Kingstree SC, his children; Robert Lilly (Debra) of Columbus, IN, Katie Green of Peterstown, WVA, and Nora Adams of Lafayette, IN; his nephews John Fisher of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Joe Fisher of Mt. Pleasant, SC, great-nephew Thomas Fisher and great-niece Ella Fisher, both of Mt. Pleasant SC.

Mr. Kramer’s ashes will be spread and a memorial held at the grave sites of his mother and father in Hillsboro, WVA at a future time.
