Obituary of Miriam Idona Lee

Miriam Idona Owens Johnson Lee, 93, passed away Sunday, April 16, 2017 peacefully at her residence. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at 3pm at Johnson Chapel Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Johnson Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery. A visitation will be held Wednesday, April 19, 2017 from 6pm-8pm at Graham Funeral Home. Born in Lake City, SC on February 18, 1924, she was a daughter of the late James Ottly Owens and the late Missouri Jane Eaddy Owens. Mrs. Lee was a Methodist until her marriage to Mr. Johnson. At that time, she became lifelong Baptist and served as an active member of Johnson Chapel Baptist Church for over 30 years, serving in various capacities, including Sunday School teacher. She became a member of Screven Church after her marriage to Mr. Lee and remained a member there for over 30 years. She was a long-time member of the Deborah Sunday School Class. Mrs. Lee was a Lake City High School graduate and attended business school in Charleston, SC before going to work for Greyhound Bus Lines. After her marriage to Mr. Johnson, she was a homemaker until she accepted part time work with Roses Department Store for several years and then went to work full time with the Georgetown branch of Andrews Bank and Trust where she eventually became head teller. Mrs. Lee remained an employee with AB&T through is transition years, eventually becoming Bank of America, until her retirement in 1986. Mrs. Lee enjoyed gardening, cooking, fishing, flowers, and shopping. She was a 30-year cancer survivor and Relay for Life volunteer. Mrs. Lee liked to travel and enjoyed her evenings at supper club. Mrs. Lee loved all holidays, but Fourth of July was her favorite because she dearly loved her Country. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, sister and friend, who will be dearly missed. Surviving are her daughter Donna Johnson Bunn (Howard) of Georgetown; her daughter in law, Wanda Cooper Johnson of Georgetown; eight grandchildren, Dion Johnson, Emily Johnson, Robin Johnson Glass, Malena J. Johnson, Kelly Johnson Owen, Jamie Johnson, Kyle Bunn, and Allison Bunn Coggins; eleven great grandchildren, nine boys and two girls; one sister, Genevieve Owens Rogers of Lake City; three step sons, Tommy Lee (Carol) of Mount Pleasant, Wayne Lee (June) of Moncks Corner, Jack Lee (Kendra) of Pawleys Island; and a number of nieces and nephews, as well as her very special caretaker, Susan Heyward Richardson and her "angel" hairdresser, Alice Watson (Tommy). In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by two husbands, Herman Deleon Johnson and Sam Lee; two sons, Deleon Johnson and Thurston Johnson; nine siblings, Clealand Owens, Bertis Owens Guy, Woodrow Owens, Odell Owens, Vernie Owens, Rufford Owens, Adelaide Owens Huckaby, Ina Mae Owens Baker, Ottly Owens Jr. and a step daughter, Patricia L. Pope. Memorials may be made to Johnson’s Chapel Baptist Church, Herbert Memorial United Methodist Church, Screven Baptist Church, Tidelands Hospice of Georgetown, Relay for Life or the charity of your choice.
