Obituary of Russell Jackie Howell, Sr.

Russell “Jackie” Howell, Sr., 70, of Georgetown, South Carolina, died peacefully on Monday, December 26, 2016, at the Medical University of South Carolina. A visitation will be held on Friday, December 30, 2016 at First Assembly of Georgetown from 6PM-9PM. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 31, 2016 at First Assembly of Georgetown at 11AM. Interment will immediately follow in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens. Jackie was born October 8, 1946 to the late Thelma Prince Howell Rogers and the late Freeman Gordon Howell. After his time at Winyah High School, Jackie worked tirelessly for 10 years, in a travelling construction union before settling in Georgetown, South Carolina to begin his career in Commercial and Industrial Insulation. Jackie became an accomplished and well respected contractor; his legacy will carry on through his cherished son, Jackie Jr. When he found time away from work, he enjoyed many hobbies throughout his years; farming, golfing, and most recently, drag racing. His heart was unselfish and his reputation untarnished. He will be greatly missed. He is survived by his son, Russell Jackie Howell, Jr. (Michelle) of Georgetown; his daughter, Dana Howell McCarthy (Vince) of Charleston, SC; and their mother, Janice Barnhill Howell; his brothers, Ralph Eugene Howell (Nita) and Clifton Rogers, both of Georgetown; his sister, Linda Rogers Adams of Georgetown; his fiancé, Sandra Swaringen of Georgetown; his grandchildren, Taylor Jessica Howell of Georgetown, Virginia Ann McCarthy, William “Alex” McCarthy, and Olivia June McCarthy, all of Charleston.
