John Earl Cribb, 88, husband of Fleetie Owens Cribb, passed away Sunday, April 1, 2012 at his home surrounded by his loved ones. Born on May 12, 1923, in Georgetown, he was a son of the late James Earl Cribb and the late Minnie Lowrimore Cribb. Mr. Cribb served as a Carpenter 1st Class in the US Navy and was a Veteran of WWII. Following his discharge from the Navy, Mr. Cribb began a 20 year career in construction with Bill Thompson Construction Company. In 1971 he began working for the Georgetown School Board of Education and retired as the Building Supervisor. He was a member of Messiah Baptist Church and the American Legion Post 114. Mr. Cribb enjoyed the outdoors but his biggest passion was wood working. He was very well known for his amazing talent in restoring and repairing antique furniture. Survivors include his wife of Georgetown; 2 daughters, Wanda C. Hoffmann of Mt. Pleasant and Sandy C. Van Ness of Georgetown; two grandchildren, Matthew R. Hoffmann of Mountain Iron, MN and Morgan M. Van Ness of Salt Lake City, UT; one great grandchild, Blake T. Hoffmann of St. Paul, MN; three sisters, Edna Hickson of Ft. Valley, GA, Hope Powell (W.A.) of Andrews and Esther Grier (Junior) of Hemingway; two brothers, Cecil Cribb (Glenda) of Georgetown and Marion Cribb (Sara) of Orangeburg; a sister in law, Carolene Cribb of Georgetown; and a number of very special nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Lena Mae Grier; a brother, Clinton Cribb; three brothers in law, Erby Owens, Doc Grier and Marcus Hickson; and a sister in law, Phyllis Cribb. Funeral Services will be held at 3 PM Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at Messiah Baptist Church with the Rev. Ricky West officiating. Entombment will follow in the Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 7-9 PM Tuesday at Graham Funeral Home. Memorial may be made to Tidelands Community Hospice, 2591 N.
