Georgia Mobley Kirkland, 96, living at the Black River in Georgetown County, SC, died on Sunday, September 20, 2015 at her home.
Mrs. Kirkland was born on November 25, 1918 in Kershaw County, SC. She was the daughter of the late George W. Mobley and Florence Coates Mobley. She attended Kershaw County schools and Thornhill Baptist Church. She retired from the South Carolina School for the Deaf and Blind after 10 years of service.
Before moving to Georgetown, Mrs. Kirkland was a charter member of Croft Baptist Church in Spartanburg, SC. Following that, she was a member of First Baptist Church in Spartanburg. Upon moving to Georgetown, she became a member of Lakewood Baptist Church and a member of the Violet Long Sunday School Class.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Paul Kirkland, one brother, Boyce Mobley of Great Falls, SC and two sisters, Elizabeth Lannon of Columbia, SC and Judy Hilton of Camden, SC.
Mrs. Kirkland is survived by one son, Edward Earl Kirkland, Sr. and his wife, Gloria Gowens Kirkland of Spartanburg, SC, and one daughter, Faye Kirkland Gilmer and her husband, Reverend Cliff R. Gilmer Sr. of Georgetown, SC. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Edward Earl Kirkland, Jr., Clifford Russell Gilmer, Jr. and his wife Missi Winn Gilmer, Carolyn Gwynne Gilmer, Daniel Kirkland Gilmer and his wife Apryl Moore Gilmer; eight great grandchildren, Clifford Russell Gilmer III, James David Gilmer Sr., Graycynne Gilmer Judy, Lauren Evan Gilmer, John Thomas (Trace) Judy III, Lindsay Nicole Gilmer, Daniel Graham Gilmer, and Liza Grace Gilmer; two great-great grandchildren, Emaleigh Faith Gilmer and James David (Jude) Gilmer Jr.
Visitation will be held at Graham Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 22, 2015 from 5pm-7pm. A graveside service of death and resurrection will be held at Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery formerly known as Hickory Head Baptist Church, at 3100 Youngs Park Drive Westville, SC 29175 on Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at 11am.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Lottie Moon Christmas Offering in care of Lakewood Baptist Church at 171 Lakewood Avenue Georgetown, SC 29440.
