Obituary of Virginia Alice Tanner

Virginia Alice Connelly Tanner, 88, widow of Victor Randolph Tanner, passed away on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at Waccamaw Community Hospital. Born on May 5, 1926, in Georgetown County, she was a daughter of the late Julius James Connelly and the late Sylvia Duncan Connelly. Mrs. Tanner was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She was affectionately known as “Nanny” and was an avid gardener, an extraordinary cook and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister that loved her family dearly. Survivors include four children, Victor Randolph Tanner, Jr. (Pat) of Bartow, FL, Michael Dean Tanner (Patsy) of Lake Royale, NC, Ettre Vee Howard of Andrews and James D. Tanner (JoAnn) of Zebulon, NC; 14 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; one sister, Lena Nesbitt of Andrews; son in law, Curtis West of Zebulon, NC; a daughter in law, Gayle Tanner of Andrews; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two children, Sylvia Elizabeth "Libby" Vick West and Julian Allen "Jay" Tanner; and three brothers, Robert Connelly, Bill Connelly and June Connelly. Funeral Services will be held at 1 PM Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at Bethel United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Monday at Bethel United Methodist Church.
