Obituary of Benjamin Ogburn

Benjamin Franklin "Benny" Ogburn, Sr., 64, husband of Karen C. Ogburn, died Friday, April 29, 2011 at Georgetown Memorial Hospital. Born on November 28, 1946 in Darlington he was a son of the late William B. Ogburn and the late Lucille Warren Ogburn. Mr. Ogburn was a member of Herbert Memorial United Methodist Church and was a US Navy Veteran having served in the Vietnam War. He was a Mason and Shriner with the Winyah Masonic Lodge 40 and a member of the Georgetown VFW Post 6444 where he served as the past Post Commander. Mr. Ogburn was retired from International Paper Company, served on the loan committee at the Georgetown Kraft Credit Union and was the past Union President of AFLCIO. He also enjoyed fishing and spending time with his grandchildren and family. Survivors include his wife of Georgetown; three children, Benjamin F. Ogburn, II (Tiffany) of Georgetown, Tara O. Lance (Jobie) of Georgetown and Vernon D. Ogburn (Katharine) of Socastee; nine grandchildren, Brandon Lambert, Breanna M. Ogburn, Noah C. Lance, Chelsea J. Lance and Abigail K. Lance all of Georgetown and Izabella Ogburn, Liam Ogburn, Vincent Ogburn and Edwin Ossont all of Socastee; one sister, Beverly Wilson (D.I.) of Georgetown; two brothers, W. Wayne Ogburn (Anne) of Georgetown and Gary Ogburn (Kathy) of Georgetown; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held at 3 PM Sunday, May 1, 2011 at Herbert Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Michael Leonhardt officiating. Burial will follow in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Saturday at Graham Funeral Home.
