Obituary of Barry Swails

Barry Theodore Swails, 76, passed away on Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at Tidelands Community Hospice House. Born on May 11, 1937, in Williamsburg County, he was a son of the late Golden Theodore Swails and the late Leila Mae Freeman Swails. Mr. Swails was of the Baptist faith and retired from International Paper Company after 39 years of service. He was a member of the Pine Tree Club. Mr. Swails enjoyed many things in life to include fishing, working with children as a football and baseball coach with the Georgetown County Department of Recreation and gardening with his special friend, Willie Grate. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Hazel Powell Swails of Georgetown; two children, Russell B. Swails (Tara Evans) and Myra Swails all of Georgetown; three grandchildren, Brittany Caddell, Hillary Caddell and Reece Swails all of Georgetown; one sister, Patricia Smith of Fredericksburg, VA and her children, Andrea Stewart of Fredericksburg, VA and Scott Smith of Washington, DC; and one special "son", Raymond Blakely of Georgetown. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a grandson, Riley Barrett Swails. A Graveside Service will be held at 11 AM Friday, August 2, 2013 in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Tommy E. Barnhill and Rev. Dean Baber officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Thursday at Graham Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Tidelands Community Hospice House, 2591 N. Fraser St. Georgetown, SC 29440.
