Obituary of Mack Allen

Mack Haywood Allen, 77, husband of Carole Jackson Allen, passed away Friday, January 11, 2013 at his home. Born on February 11, 1935, in Conway, he was a son of the late Fred Dillon Allen and the late Estell Marlowe Allen. Mr. Allen was a United States Airforce Veteran and was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal and the late Longevity Service Award. He was a member of Bethany Pentecostal Holiness Church in Shulerville and retired from Charleston Industrial Supply after 31 years of service. Mr. Allen enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife of McClellanville; three children, Joanne A. Jackson, Woodie Allen (Lyn) and Gilbert Allen (Kathy) all of McClellanville; six grandchildren, Claire Allen, Cade Allen, Cody Allen, Wayne Jackson, Matthew Allen and Kara Bury; one sister, Bernell Smith (Jimmy) of Fredericksburg, VA; a step brother, Charles Cannon (Nell) of Travelers Rest; two step sisters, Christine Smithart of Anderson and Betty McCombs of Travelers Rest; two special sister in laws, Brenda Cannon of Six Mile and Inez Fort of McClellanville; and three special family members, Miriam, Joey and Ethan Jackson all of Awendaw. He was preceded in death by a step mother, Cecil Allen; a sister, Gertrude Allen; and three brothers, Barney Cannon, Harold Cannon and Ray Cannon. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. The family will receive friends from 4-6 pm Sunday at the home, 1294 N. Pinckney St. Memorials may be made to Odyssey Hospice, 5965 Core Ave. North Charleston, SC 29406 or to the charity of one’s choice.
