George Scott Marlowe, Sr., 82, widower of Amelia Morrison Marlowe, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Wednesday, January 18, 2023. A funeral service will be held at Prince George Winyah Church Monday, January 23, 2023 at 2:30 PM. Interment will be held in Brick Church at Wambaw Cemetery immediately following the service. Mr. Marlowe was born February 8, 1940 in Georgetown to the late Claude Cornelius Marlowe and the late Hilda Moore Marlowe. He was a graduate of Winyah High School and a member of Prince George Winyah Church. Mr. Marlowe was a veteran of the United States Navy and upon his discharge, began his career as a paper maker with International Paper. From there, he cofounded Marlowe Elliott Agency where he sold into the paper manufacturing industry. After retirement, he bought Winyah Bay golf course, which he sold in 2004, and later Wedgefield golf course that he also sold in 2014. Mr. Marlowe loved his work, golf, and RV’ing. But more especially, he loved spending time with his friends and family. Surviving are one son, James Wade Marlowe (Vicki) of Georgetown; a daughter-in-law, Beth Marlowe of Georgetown; four grandchildren, Ashley Marlowe Benford (John John) of Georgetown, Will Marlowe of Georgetown, Jacob Ross Marlowe of Mount Pleasant, Grace Allston Marlowe of Myrtle Beach; three great grandchildren, Eleanor Elizabeth Moody, Trey Benford, and Scottie Morrison Benford. In addition to his parents and his wife of 63 years, he was preceded in death by two sons, George Scott Marlowe, Jr. and Ross Morrison Marlowe; a grandson, George Scott “Scottie” Marlowe III; a sister, Goldie Marlowe Moore; and a brother, James “Jimmy” Marlowe.
