Obituary of Elaine L. McDougal

Elaine Lawrimore McDougal, 88, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away Sunday, April 2, 2017. A memorial service will be held Friday April 7, 2017 at 6 p.m. in the chapel of Graham Funeral Home. The family will receive friends after the service in the funeral home. Born January 28, 1929 in Georgetown, South Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Mr. Wade Hampton Lawrimore and Mrs. Eulie Johnson Lawrimore. Mrs. McDougal grew up on South Island in Georgetown County where she developed her love of animals and nature. She was a proud graduate of both Winyah High School and Limestone College. Upon her college graduation, she began a long and fruitful career in education as a school teacher. She taught in many different schools in Georgetown County and touched the lives of countless children during her tenure. Mrs. McDougal was a member of First Baptist Church of Georgetown and a very determined woman that raised three sons, instilling in them her love of life and appreciation of art and nature. She was also well known for her love of gardening and her almost magical way of making plants grow. Surviving are three sons: Robert and Cynthia McDougal of Lake Worth, Florida, Christopher Scott McDougal of Austin, Texas, and Brian McDougal of Georgetown South Carolina; one granddaughter, Mary Montenegro and great-grandchildren, Robert Montenegro and Ani Leon, all of Lake Worth, Florida; a number of nieces, nephews, friends and extended family. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Wallace Hampton Lawrimore and a grandson, Mickey Murdock. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Saint Frances Animal Center at 125 Ridge Street, Georgetown, SC 29440. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.grahamfuneralhome.org.
